COURS JULIEN (AN)

Where are we? Place Jean Jaurès, 13006

Historical and chronological situation: 2000 – today

Introduction: We are in one of the most bohemian places in the city of Marseille, at first sight you can see that it is a district with a certain "hipster" air and, moreover, it is the largest in France dedicated to urban art.

History: Walking in the streets of this mythical district of the 6th arrondissement, you are surrounded by art, its alleys evoke an atmosphere of calm and happiness, nature in the form of small gardens decorates the streets and the colourful walls transport you to another world.

For several years now, the Cours Julien has been home to artists, local designers, antique dealers, organic shops, vintage and second-hand clothing boutiques, book and comic book stores, among many other establishments.

Every week, the place where we are today receives different markets. The most famous is the one of La Plaine: totally organic and fresh, it sells fruits and vegetables from local producers. There is also a stamp market and a flower market which takes place once a week.

A glass of pastis in complete calm, a coffee under the sun or a typical dish on the terrace is enough to soak up the essence of this very special neighbourhood.
